Totally groovy: Hippie-themed hotel room launches in regional SA

South Australia-based accommodation and event venue Mountain Path Meadows is excited to announce a new collaboration with the legends at The Bellum Hotel: a hippie-themed hotel room attached to a classic country pub. What could be groovier?!

The room’s bright yellow external door will be hard for guests to miss.

Located at The Bellum Hotel at Mount Schank, the room will sleep up to 4 guests, and is instantly recognisable with its bright yellow door. Guests will step inside and be transported to the late 60s and early 70s thanks to flower power decor, a lava lamp, and vintage concert posters featuring musical masters of the era.

“We’re excited to launch Rock N Roam, our new offering located at The Bellum Hotel,” said Daniel Billingsley, Co-Founder, Mountain Path Meadows. Daniel’s mum, Meg Black, owns and manages The Bellum Hotel, along with her partner Bob Willis, having relocated to Mount Schank in 2023 to reinvigorate the country pub — and be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and (most importantly, let’s be honest) granddaughter.

With her 3-year-old granddaughter just a minute or two up the road, moving to Mount Schank and taking over The Bellum Hotel was all about being close to family. Pictured here, “Nanny Megs” and her granddaughter share a moment at The Bellum.

“With The Bellum just a minute or two up the road, it’s a perfect opportunity for us at Mountain Path Meadows to apply the expertise we’ve gained over the past year-plus while running our accommodations business on our own property,” said Rachel Gerds, Dan’s partner and fellow Co-Founder of Mountain Path Meadows, referring to the couple’s geodesic timber domes — the first and only in the state of South Australia.

“While the vibe is very different to our domes, we’ve learned a lot from all the amazing guests we’ve welcomed, and we can’t wait to help even more people explore the Limestone Coast with this unique new offering in collaboration with The Bellum.”

Tapping into a shared love of music amongst Dan, Rachel, Meg and Bobby, the room will feature vintage concert posters from the likes of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie and more. (An accompanying Spotify playlist completes the groovy vibe.)

Guests will even have the chance to have a hippie moment themselves, with a peace sign necklace, fringed vest, and other props included in the room for a mini-dress-up session to really get guests in the hippie headspace.

As an expansion of Mountain Path Meadow’s current offerings, the hotel room features three single and one double bed, and is now available for bookings on Airbnb. Learn more and follow along on Instagram. Far out!
