Local business launches the region’s first-ever yoga retreats in a step forward for Limestone Coast wellness tourism

  • Research shows that wellness tourism is on the rise, with more travellers prioritising self-care, and mental and physical health.

  • Yoga Retreats at local accommodations venue Mountain Path Meadows help put the Lower Southeast region of South Australia on the map in this growing wellness travel trend.

To coincide with the undeniable rise of wellness tourism, Mountain Path Meadows has launched new yoga retreats that offer guests the rare opportunity to disconnect from technology and the stresses of life while having a holiday that leaves guests feeling restored, rejuvenated, and relaxed.

According to the Global Travel Trends Report, a large majority (75%) of travellers are planning to decrease screen time during travel to improve their mental health, and/or seeking to immerse themselves in nature to increase mental clarity (68%).

Similarly, in their recent piece The biggest travel trends for 2024, Conde Naste Traveller predicts: “In 2024, travellers will be putting what’s important to them front and centre of their plans, valuing deeper experiences that leave a positive impact, time spent with loved ones and wellness moments that last well after checkout. We’ll be choosing destinations carefully, slowing it down to enjoy the silence and the stars, indulging in our love of food in new and interesting places, and immersing ourselves in wellness practices that help us live longer.”

The new yoga retreats from Mountain Path Meadows are aligned to the burgeoning wellness and nature-based tourism trends, particularly for younger travellers.

“The irony is that even though Gen-Z and Millennial travellers use search engines and social media to create inspiration for their travel plans, they also relish the opportunity to have an analog experience that’s closer to nature and offers them a reprieve from phone notifications and the busyness of everyday modern life,” said Rachel Gerds, co-founder of Mountain Path Meadows. “That’s exactly what our yoga retreats are all about: A chance to unplug and de-stress while more deeply connecting with yourself and the natural environment.”

“Our accommodations intentionally have no WiFi, heating, cooling or electricity — so you can’t help but feel closer to your natural surroundings while you’re staying here,” said Gerds.

With the next-closest yoga retreats taking place more than 220 kilometres away in the Grampians, the launch of Mountain Path Meadows’ yoga retreats is a step forward for Limestone Coast tourism, helping put the region on the map when it comes to the growing niche of wellness travel.

As a part of this launch, Mountain Path Meadows is offering four retreats, taking place on weekends throughout late March and early April. Each retreat can accommodate four guests, ensuring an exclusive experience and tailored yoga instruction. Included in the price of the retreat are four onsite yoga classes taught by Jas Laubsch of Willow Heart Yoga, as well as two nights of accommodation in Mountain Path Meadows’ unique geodesic glamping domes.

Mountain Path Meadows has also partnered with local award-winning meal prep business Gym Challenge Meals Mount Gambier to offer guests an optional meal package upgrade.

“For guests of our retreats who truly want to sit back, relax, and not worry about their meals, our partnership with Gym Challenge Meals is the perfect way to ensure access to high-quality, delicious and nutritious meals over the course of your yoga retreat weekend.”

For a limited time, Mountain Path Meadows is offering 24% off the price of all remaining yoga retreat spots with the discount code 24OFF (expires 11:59 p.m. ACDT on 24 January 2024).

At the foot of Mount Schank and near the unique timber geodesic domes of Mountain Path Meadows, yoga retreat guests indulge in self-care as they immerse themselves in nature.
