Mountain Path Meadows Ups its Wellness Game with New Wood-Fire Sauna from Soulfire Australia

Having recently announced its first yoga retreats, Mountain Path Meadows — a premier wedding and accommodation venue in South Australia’s Limestone Coast — is continuing its foray into wellness tourism with its latest addition: a wood-fire sauna from the legends at Soulfire Australia.

Studies have shown regular sauna use to have mental and physical health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, stress reduction, better sleep quality, and even reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Despite being an ancient tradition popular amongst indigenous cultures around the world, sauna popularity has been on the rise in recent years, with the global sauna and spa market value forecast to reach US$4.65 billion in 2025.

“Since Rachel and I met and fell in love during a Contiki trip to Scandinavia — a place that’s almost religious about its sauna culture — we thought it was fitting that we add a sauna to the experience we provide our guests and clients,” said Daniel Billingsley, co-founder of Mountain Path Meadows.

The team at Mountain Path Meadows sees the addition of the sauna as another way to help put the Limestone Coast on the map when it comes to wellness- and nature-based tourism.

“It’s clear that wellness tourism continues to be a growing trend amongst travellers,” said Rachel Gerds, co-founder of Mountain Path Meadows, referencing a recent rise in global wellness tourism.

According to National Geographic, 21% of global travellers are currently travelling for health- and wellness-driven reasons, citing the 2022 Travel Trends research by luxury travel network Virtuoso. The Global Wellness Institute projects 9.9% average annual growth in the wellness economy between now and 2025, when it will reach nearly $7 trillion (£5.5 trillion).

“It’s a common experience among travellers to take a holiday that doesn’t end up feeling one bit restful or relaxing. But we’re trying to make Mountain Path Meadows the antithesis of that. Our property is so well-suited to become a wellness haven for tourists who are looking for a private vacation experience that helps them better connect with nature, with themselves, and with each other,” said Gerds.
