Introducing South Australia’s First and Only Timber Dome Glamping Accommodation

We here at Mountain Path Meadows are proud to announce that our first accommodation option — known as The Dome — is now available and ready for booking. The Dome is the first and only accommodation of its kind in South Australia.

The Dome, in all her golden light glory.

The Dome is part of Mountain Path Meadows, our 12-acre estate located at the base of Mount Schank, a dormant volcano crater in South Australia’s Limestone Coast region, in the state’s lower southeast.

We purchased our beautiful property here on Mount Schank a couple years ago — in fact, we closed at the end of October 2020. At the time, we were expecting our baby in a few months and were establishing roots here in the Limestone Coast region.

Our vision was to find a property where we could live and generate an income, to allow us to spend more time together as a family.

We were inspired by the show Escape to the Chateau. (In fact, fans of the show may recognise our geodesic dome as similar to the one that sits on Dick and Angel’s moat, though ours is made of timber.)

We had the vision of creating an eco-friendly retreat where people could stay and experience a bit of the simple life we live, unwind and reconnect with nature, and also have the chance to get married in this incredibly stunning and unique location.

We couldn’t find anything like it in the area — a place where you can stay in a sustainable setting at the base of a South Australian Geological Monument and State Heritage Area the likes of Mount Schank.

Eva brand King-sized mattress and bed frame with blue, rust and ochre coloured BedThreads bedding, and a natural timber stump bedside table

The Dome features a top-rated Eva King-size mattress and award-winning bed frame, outfitted with luxurious BedThreads linens.

It’s been a long time coming and that’s why we’re so excited to launch the first phase of our business: The Dome, a 6-meter diameter geodesic dome constructed of dozens of interconnected timber triangles that provide an incredibly strong structural framework using minimal materials. A geodesic dome is an architectural wonder, also dubbed the “Bucky Ball” after its creator, legendary architect Buckminster Fuller. As far as we know, ours is the first and only timber geodesic dome in South Australia.

The Dome is a work of art, in our humble opinions, and was built by Ballarat, Vic.-based Geodomes Australia.

As we’re a small business just starting out, we’d love your support to like, comment and share us on social media. And if you’re in the market for a relaxing getaway to South Australia, head over to Airbnb and get to booking! We can’t wait to welcome you.
